How to select the right Cycling clothes
Having the correct clothes on when cycling will make your cycling experience a better one. If you have decided you are cycling long distance then it's important you have on the right sort of padded shorts or trousers to make sure you don't get uncomfortable.
When you're going on a long ride and you have a hard saddle, making sure you are going to be comfortable is high on your list or priorities, not only do you want to have an enjoyable ride you want to prevent any injuries from occuring. Choosing to wear lycra racing shorts, with padded lining will protect you from saddle sore. You should always take the weather into consideration when riding. This will also determine the type of cycle clothes you need. Here is a list of essential riding clothes when out riding.
On cold days cycling tights are a good idea. Making sure the knees are kept coverered will stop you from feeling cold and make sure your performance stays high. Having a base layer of clothing on is always a good thing to keep in mind, garments used for a base layer will absorb sweat from the body. It's always good to have a base layer of clothing, because having sweat build up is going to effect your performance, and a good base layer of clothing is going to soak up the sweat from your body.
When choosing a cycling top it should not be to baggy as this could slow you down especially if its a windy day, also to be considered is a cycling top should not be to tight as this will hinder you movements, to tight is as bad as too baggy. It's important to keep arms coverered up on chilly days, if your arms feel cold on a ride it can really take the fun out of it. Choosing the right clothes is of utmost importance to get the most comfort and enjoyment out of your cycling experience. In the past cycling clothes were a lot harder to come by and were used by sports riders only. Today it's a lot easier to buy cycling clothes for reasonable prices.
Shoes
You want shoes that are stiff and fit into the peddles. Having shoes that are stiff will make sure you get the most energy from peddling as your feet will not bend around the peddles therefore breaking down the energy. One point to remember when buying shoes for cycling is that your feet expand when they heat up so you shouldn't but them to tight. Allow for the feet to expand as they will do as you exercise with cycling. The shoes that are the most sought after are the one with the velcro fastening because they can be loosened with ease if shoes start to feel like they're pinching. Also they can be put on and taking off a lot easier.
Head Gear
It is best to always ride with a helmet. Without a helmet you are far more vulnerable. It is a good idea to invest in a good quality helmet. It should rest comfortably on your head and you shouldn't be aware you're wearing one. It should not move when you shake your head around and it also it should have good ventilation. There is plenty to choose from on the market today for cycling gear, don't scrimp on your cycling clothes they are an important investment for your cycling experience.
