Exercises You Can Do While In The Swimming Pool
Not everyone loves to exercise but almost everyone does love to go for a swim. So how do you change exercise time into a fun time? Simply go for a swim! The swimming pool is there (all clean and decontaminated using swimming pool chemicals). The only thing you need to begin is to be in your swim wear. You don't have your own swimming pool? You can use the swimming pool at the local gym or recreation area.
Most people are not aware of it but swimming is actually a form of exercise that involves almost all of the muscles in your body. Because swimming is one form of 'low-impact' exercise, it is perfect for those interested to begin an exercise regimen. Swimming pools are actually used by therapists to help treat patients and elderly people. The individuals exercising in the swimming pool will not be affected by correctly administered pool chemicals. You only need to make sure that the pool has been correctly treated with pool chemicals and that the appropriate time has elapsed before doing your routine.
Strong swimmers normally begin their swim with a couple of gentle laps in the pool to warm up their muscles. As soon as you get warmed-up you can now begin to swim at a more rigorous pace so your muscles will get exercised in the process. Starting to feel tired? Congratulations, you've properly paced your swimming exercise.
In case you aren't much of a good swimmer then choose doing other exercise routines that can also be done in the pool.
- Fast walking for 10 to 15 minutes at the shallow part of the pool is one routine you can have a go at.
- Go to a deeper part of the pool. Hold onto the ledge with both hands, position yourself on your stomach then start kicking your legs for a good 5 minutes.
- Another routine is water treading for 20 minutes or more. In case you are having hard time water treading, you can use anchored treading method where one of your hands holds onto the pool's ledge while treading.
- While standing solidly on the pool floor, preferably where the pool water reaches your chest area, twist your upper body side to side for at least 8 turns.
Here are a couple of things to remember. Swimming pool exercises are really fun just bear in mind that you do need to do both warm-up and cooling-down stages of exercise. Always allow a day or two of rest before doing another set of swimming pool exercise.
