Schwinn mountain bike?

Hi all, I'm moving to Chapel Hill, NC for grad school this fall and am going to buy a new bike for commuting to campus (parking is horrific, and horrifically expensive). I don't bike for exercise (I run) or racing or anything like that, so I just want something cheap but reliable. I'd like to hit some of the trails near town just for fun, but it's not like I'll be doing serious mountain biking in Colorado or anything like that. I'm looking to spend less than 200 bucks, and from what I've seen online it looks like there are some Schwinn models that have gotten good reviews from consumers that fit that price range. I'm just wondering, from some people who actually know what they're talking about (unlike me!) if you think that'd be a good choice for a commuter/occasional light off-roading bike. The most important thing to me is reliability; I just want something that's going to hold up and be good quality for hopefully a few years to come. Thanks in advance for any advice! Best, Tracy

Tracy... Schwinn has TWO divisions: REAL bicycle shops & discount stores. The discount store variety of Schwinn & most sold on Amazon.com are JUNK. If you want reliability - see a real bicycle shop.

And for street riding & light trails only a hybrid would be a MUCH better choice. If you insist on a Schwinn - see link below. This is a REAL Schwinn bicycle with much better components than those found in discount stores. Other top brands would include Raleigh, Specialized, Trek, Cannondale, etc. My choice would be a Raleigh Detour 4.5 for $460 on 2nd link.
