How to Yard Sale-Make Thousands Of Dollars, In 4 Easy Steps, By Selling Your Stuff Before You Make A Major Move!
When you know you are going to move, and you have a couple of months before the actual date, you can convert some of your things to CASH, rather than buying a hundred extra moving boxes to move things you no longer use. Why increase your moving expenses by lugging EVERYTHING to your new place! Instead have a yard sale!
The problem is that most people who attempt to sell yard sale items, only make a few hundred dollars AND spend HOURS and DAYS working for it. If you add up what you make for the hours you put in, it is around 30 cents an hour for most yard sales!
The good news is, you can make thousands of dollars with a well thought out plan for a yard sale, and by using a different approach. If you are wondering how to yard sale so you will make thousands of dollars versus hundreds, following the four easy steps:
Step #1: Advertise your yard sale on a place such as Craig's List or in the classified section of your local paper. Include specific and separate listings for all of your larger items, or any of the furniture that you want to get rid of. (Don't forget that exercise contraption that you used twice before it ended up shoved into the corner of the garage, covered with a tarp, and then with light stuff stacked on top of it.) Remember, there are all types of things that people will buy, from wooden oars to a rowboat, to the old Barbie dream house, that your 37 year old daughter or wife doesn't want!
Yard Sale Tip: Instead of meeting people every day that call you interested in your Craigslist listings, pick a specific day where you will set up your appointments. List this day in the ad. Don't make the time period too large, or fewer people will show up. The time you chose to make appointments could be the day of your yard sale, or the day before since everything will be set out for viewing.

Step #2: Some things should NOT be sold at a yard sale and should be sold on eBay instead. You can even get a FREE eBay account and a FREE PayPal account and list some of these things for auction. If you write some great descriptions and take some decent photos, you can really do well on eBay, and even after you make the move, you just might continue to sell on eBay for fun and for extra money!
Remember, if you want to know how to yard sale to make money, don't try and sell collector items, antiques, or name brand furniture or products at your yard sale. You will get pennies on the dollar, where you could have easily found a buyer that WANTS to pay a lot more by using E-bay.
Step #3: Through word of mouth advertising by telling some family, friends, and neighbors, you can also sell a lot of stuff that you want to unload. You can invite people to stop by for coffee or ice cream, and to take a look at what you are selling. It can be like a Tupperware party, but with your old stuff! Advertise a moving yard sale in your local paper and a different type of buyer will show up.
Step #4: A couple of weekends before the move, do go ahead and have a Huge Yard Sale! You can place some ads in the local paper, and again you can use Craig's List to optimize the visitors to your moving yard sale, and you can really sell off tons of the items that you don't want to have to pack into moving boxes and bring with you! Make sure that you place signs on EVERY corner leading to your home from a busy street.
Yard Sale Tip: Yard sale items are great for things that are not expensive, typically older, but in great condition. Older furniture, old bikes, tents, camping supplies all make for great yard sale items. Avoid having a million little things laying around that are being sold for .25 cents.
