How To Plan Your Workout
An important part of staying healthy and in shape is exercise. When you start working out, you immediately ask yourself what do I do. This stems to other quesitons like how long you should workout or how many times do you have to do it in a day or in a week. It is important to plan your exercise routine in order for you to get the right amount of exercise and the results that you want.
When planning your workout, aprinciple that you can follow is FITT. FITT stands for frequency, intensity, type and time. Frequency is refering to how many times you will workout. The number of time you should workout is calculated on a per week basis and it is highly recommended that you start 3 or 4 times in that week if your goal is to lose weight or if you are just starting to workout. Intensity is referring to the workout's difficulty. You will need to asses your personal ability for this one because you need to know how heavy you can lift, how fast you can go, how many repetitions and sets you can do and how long you have to rest in between sets. Time is basically referring to how long you will do the workout per session or per day. Type refers to the kind of exercise you will do, like cardio or resistance exercises, and what exercise you will do, like aerobics or weight lifting.
The FITT principle will help you determine what exercises you should start with and eventually map out a long term plan to achieve your goal. You will be able to choose the right exercise and the level of difficulty you need to start with in order to lose weight more effectively. When you apply this principle to your planning, you can put more variety to your exercise, increase the amount of calories you burn when working out, track your progress and avoid over training and injuries. This helps you make your exercise more fun and keeps you from sustaining any injuries that may hinder you from any physical activity in the future. It is always a good idea to get the advise of a doctor or a fitness instructor so you can tailor fit your exercises especially if you have a condition that requires special consideration.
You may use this principle even if you already have a workout routine and you want to take it to another level so you can find out which direction you want to go with losing weight, toning your body or just keeping in shape. You need to have a commitment in doing this when you plan your workout. You can never get anywhere with just looking at a map.
