Are you supposed to use your arms to pull you on a cross trainer?
I have been going to the gym lately and am enjoying using the cross trainer. However, (and this may be a very silly question sorry!) I have been somewhat pulling myself along with my arms. Am i supposed to use the handles as a little workout for my arms as well or are merely there for me to hold without pulling any weight so you have support and not tumble off?

If by cross trainer you mean elliptical machine then yes you use the handles to workout your arms, but it won't be as stressful as lifting weights. It will increase the effects of your cardio workout because using your arms will cause more blood flow in your upper body with the increased ar movements.
