Health And Fitness To Grow Old And Live Well
Most of us desire a long but also healthy life. We have seen people grow old and live life in pain and misery, but we desire to enjoy the golden years of life. Now is the perfect time to begin a health and fitness program that can improve both the length and quality of your life.
One of the best ways to get fit is to focus on muscle growth. Since it takes more calories to nourish a pound of muscle than it does to nourish a pound of fat, when you add muscle, and keep eating the same way you always have, you have put your body in a calorie deficit that will automatically cause you to lose more fat. While fat cannot be directly turned into muscle, increasing muscle can cause you to lose fat.
If you are going to improve your overall health, you need to develop an exercise program. This does not necessarily mean that you must join a gym, although there are some advantages to a membership. Gym members often have access to many different machines, swimming pools, spas and saunas. They can work out when the weather might otherwise prevent you from following your routine.
Exercise is possible without a gym membership. The key is getting your body to move. Try jogging or even walking on a regular basis. Very little equipment is needed. If you prefer, try riding a bike on a regular basis. Just remember to use the correct safety equipment to protect joints and your head. A black helmet will prevent brain injury and knee and elbow pads can protect these important joints.
Persons that have issues with joint pain may consider workouts in the water. The pool can add resistance but also support your body so that those joints do not ache after the workout. By building muscle and losing fat your body has less weight to carry around and a better support system to carry the load.
Once you begin to see the positive results of an exercise program, you may begin to enjoy the time. In addition to feeling better, you may also feel better about yourself. Once you start to see the improvements that adding an exercise program adds, you may start thinking about how to break 80, 90 or even 100.
The reality of life is that none of us are sure how many more days or years we may have left. Taking care of the body helps it to be prepared so that we can enjoy those years as much as possible.
