What is the best way to use my stationary bike for exercise?
First off , stretch your body before jumping on your bike. Your muscles need the added stretch and oxygen before using them in cardio.
The best way to get great results off of an exercise bike is to set your resistance low at first, warm up at a decent speed. When you feel you are used to the resistance, increase it gradually. Ride for at least 45 minutes at a good speed, enough where your heart rate is accelerated.
Change the resistance and speed as you go, mixing it up a bit gives your muscles more of a workout.
Example: Within the 45 minute ride, do 10 minutes lower resistance with a decent speed. Then increase resistance and speed. Keep a steady fast high resistace for say 15 minutes, then lower both speed and resistance for about 5 minutes. Then increase again. This works the muscles better, giving them a better workout.
