Only drink water. You might find this hard to believe but one of the easiest ways to drastically cut down on how many calories you consume is to cut out the soda, the juice, the energy drinks, the booze and all of the other drinks you take in except for water. Your water should be cold. Water doesn't have any calories. It helps you stay hydrated and contributes to your health. Depending on what kind of soda you normally drink even reducing your intake by two servings can lower your caloric intake by at least two hundred calories. In addition to cutting down on your calorie intake, replacing these other drinks with water helps you cut down on things like sugar, high fructose corn syrup and other nefarious ingredients that do nothing for your health.
The word "diet" should not be used in relation to your new eating habits. Call it "choosing healthier food" or something similar. "Diet" is a word that is often viewed negatively. You are far more likely to resent your new eating habits if you call them "dieting" than if you call them "making healthier choices" or "eating organically." Instead of assigning it a negative word, use positive, action-based words to describe your new lifestyle choices. This will help you to feel more proactive about what you're doing and you'll have an easier time telling people who might have started to wonder why you're suddenly eating differently.
It is important to be balanced. There are a lot of fad diets out there that recommend cutting out whole types of foods. Most of these diets are anti-carbohydrate which isn't good. The fact is that your body needs carbohydrates for energy. The key is to practice moderation when you consume carbohydrates. Stay away from fad diets that tell you that you will only lose weight if you cut out whole sections of a balanced food intake. You need to eat a well balanced diet to stay healthy. Anyone who tries to convince you otherwise is a fake.
